List Rules Only directors who were nominated for Best Directing in 2016.

The 2016 Oscar nominations have arrived! While the nominees start optimistically practicing their speeches, it’s time for the rest of us to predict the winners. That’s right, it’s time to answer the big question: Who will win the 2016 Academy Award for Best Directing? The 2016 Oscar nominees for Best Directing were released on January 14, so out of the nominees, who do you think should win? These five directors were selected from the scores of amazing directors who helmed a film in this past year. While George Miller, Adam McKay, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Lenny Abrahamson, and Tom McCarthy were all noteworthy in their own right, only one director’s name can be in the envelope.

Alejandro González Iñárritu received his second straight nomination for The Revenant. In 2015, he won the category for Birdman. Adam McKay, director of the Anchorman movies, took his directing to the next level and was rewarded with a nomination for The Big Short. While Lenny Abrahamson and Tom McCarthy both put out great films (Room and Spotlight, respectively), Mad Max creator, George Miller, may be the director to beat.

No category is without controversy. While many film buffs think Ryan Coogler (Creed) and F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) were snubbed, these are the remaining five directors who now have the chance to take home the 2016 Oscar for Best Directing. Make your predictions known by voting up the nominated directors you think will win and voting down the directors you think don't stand a chance.
