In comic books, costumes are a huge part of a character. They give the reader quick insight as to each character's power, their personality, their team affiliation, and more. Sometimes, though, that's not enough, or sometimes the publisher wants to kick it up a notch. Usually, they change the costume for a time, or in some extreme cases they put the character him or herself through a physical transformation. Superman, the Man of Steel, has been through his fair share of transformations, some more successful than others.

Because he can seemingly do ANYTHING, Superman goes through all manner of transformations, both ridiculous and awesome. Keeping a character so infinitely just, powerful, and fresh is a hard thing to do. So sometimes you have to turn him into a lion. Or an ape. Or give him twelve fingers.
