What Celebrities Have To Say About Their Own Bizarre Conspiracy Theories

As long as there have been celebrities, there have been outlandish rumors circulating about them. These tall tales keep us interested and capture the wild extremes of the human imagination, but what celebrities think of their conspiracy theories range from humor and acceptance to downright denial and anger. Many of these rumors are so outrageous as to be laughable, but some are flat-out mean-spirited.

Have stars confirmed crazy rumors about themselves? Well, in most cases, they haven't given confirmations so much as they have injected a dose of reality into the conversation. Conspiracy theories tend to fall apart once you introduce cold, hard facts into the narrative, and that's just what these celebs have done. A true story, no matter how absurd, will stand up to some basic questioning; a ridiculous conspiracy theory will not.

Keanu Reeves has been dogged by rumors he is some immortal figure who has lived for centuries. There's even a website devoted to this wild story. Proponents of the theory point to two main assertions. First, Reeves doesn't seem to age, which, given the star's remarkably boyish good looks, is somewhat understandable.

The second "fact" conspiracy theorists cite is Reeves bears a resemblance to some noted historical figures like Charlemagne, sixteenth century painter Parmigianino, and French actor Paul Mounet. Reeves has addressed the theory head-on when asked in interviews, calling them "crazy." He also insists that he ages just like everyone else:

"I'm every cliché...Aging. I'm just starting to get better at it. Just the amount of stuff you have to do before you're dead. I'm all of the clichés, and it's embarrassing. It's all of them. It's just, 'Oh my God. OK. Where did the time go? How come things are changing? How much time do I have left? What didn’t I do?'"

  • Jennifer Lopez Swore She Never Insured Her Behind

Jennifer Lopez has no qualms showing off her derriere, whether it be dedicating entire songs to it or shaking it like nobody's business in a show-stopping performance. There's some logic in the suggestion that she might not want to take chances with her most notable physical asset, so getting her rear-end insured for millions does make a certain amount of sense.

But, alas, the rumors are not true. In an interview with James Corden, he asked her point-blank if her tuchus was insured for a small fortune, and J-Lo denied any such policy or coverage.

"No! There is no such thing as that. I think there is a place in your homeland [England, where Corden is from] where you can insure certain things, parts of your body - seriously. I think that exists. I’ve heard that. Not here, I don’t think!"

  • Marilyn Manson Joked About His Rib Removal Rumors

When it comes to celebrity rumors, few are as over-the-top as the theory that rocker Marilyn Manson had a rib removed. And why, you ask, would a megastar like Manson have a pretty crucial bone eliminated from his thin frame?

To give himself pleasure, of course! Surprisingly, Manson took on the rumor during an interview when a fan named Keith asked him directly about it. He didn't outright deny it. Cue the rumor mill in 3, 2, 1…

  • Richard Gere Stopped Reading The Press Because Of The Gerbil Rumors

Since the early 1990s, Richard Gere has been the subject of a bizarre story that he was once taken to the hospital to have a gerbil removed from his body. The story suggests that the incident was a strange proclivity on Gere's part that had gone horribly wrong. This rumor was so prevalent for a time that Gere vowed to ignore the press as much as possible. He told an interviewer:

"I stopped reading the press a long time ago. Lots of crazy things came up about me at first, especially from the tabloids. There is an infamous 'Gere stuck a hamster [in his]...' urban myth."

Notice he said "hamster" and not "gerbil." While his denials are all well and good, many have pointed out his mistake as proof that such rumors are true.

  • Katy Perry Confirmed She Is Not JonBenét Ramsey

The Katy Perry-Is-Really-JonBenét rumor is as crazy as they come. The conspiracy doesn't stand up to even the slightest scrutiny; Perry was 12 years old when JonBenét passed at the age of 6, which alone blows apart any suggestion that they are one and the same. In a rapid-fire interview with Billy Eichner, he asked Perry about the rumor, and her reply was quick and to the point.

"Um wait, no, that is not real," she said. There was a seriousness and nervousness in her response, which, of course, was fuel for conspiracy theorists. More likely, Perry was trying to dismiss a rumor while being respectful of the fact that, you know, a kid passed.

  • Paul McCartney Called The Rumor About Him A Misunderstanding

In 1969, the rumor began circulating that Beatle Paul McCartney had passed and was replaced by a doppelganger. Theorists point to supposed clues in Beatles songs and album covers. McCartney has admittedly had some fun with the rumor, titling his 1993 live album, Paul Is Live. But McCartney first responded to the story back in a late 1969 Life cover story.

"Perhaps the rumor started because I haven't been much in the press lately. I have done enough press for a lifetime, and I don't have anything to say these days. I am happy to be with my family and I will work when I work. I was switched on for ten years and I never switched off. Now I am switching off whenever I can. I would rather be a little less famous these days."
