In 2003, the skeleton of an alien found in the desert caused a massive ripple in the international scientific community. The six-inch alien corpse that came to be known as the Atacama alien should not have existed. Not only does the skeleton look exactly like that of a mummified alien, but it fails to bare even a remote resemblance to a human being. Many UFOlogists believed that this discovery was the key to proving the existence of extra-terrestrial life.

Even though the photos of this alien-like skeleton are convincing, it would still be a huge leap to say that the bones belong to an alien. While some UFOlogists were ecstatic over the discovery, another group of researchers were claiming that the whole thing was a hoax. There were a few scientists who actually researched the bones, and their findings are legitimately ground breaking, although not in the way that many UFOologists were probably hoping it would be.

Does Ata, the six inch skeleton from Cental America, belong to a long-deceased alien? Or are its origins more terrestrial?

The Skeleton Was Discovered In A Remote Area Of Chile

In 2003, someone scavenging an ancient site in the Atacama desert of Chile discovered the mummified skeleton of something that they believed to be alien. The skeleton was a six-inch humanoid wrapped in a linen cloth, that was tied together with purple ribbon.

The miniature skeleton, which was supposedly buried next to an ancient church, was then sold to a man at a bar for the equivalent of less than 30 dollars, and then it made its way to a private collector in Spain. After research on the mysterious skeleton was released, the Chilean Association of Archeologists and the Chilean Society of Biological Anthropology denounced the findings for making use of remains looted from a holy ground.

Ata's Irregular Eyes Seem Inhuman In Origin

Regardless of the DNA research that's gone into Ata's mysterious bones, it's still obvious that something is weird about this skeleton. Many UFOlogists see the science-fiction-character-come-to-life as proof that something out of the ordinary has been occurring in Central Mexico.

It's impossible to look at Ata's oversized eye sockets without noting how similar they look to those of the extra-terrestrials that have been described in abduction scenarios from across the world.

The Mummified Remains Were Riddled With Strange Deformities

Aside from being only six-inches tall, the skeleton was infested with a series of strange deformities that gave it an otherworldly look. Despite its size, the skeleton has features that a child wouldn't have until they reached the age of 10. The skeleton, referred to as Ata, had 10 ribs on its body rather than the normal 12.

Researchers believe that the skeleton has so many deformities because of the "prenatal nitrate exposure" that it may have received due to the large amounts of the substance evident in the mining towns of Chile.

Multiple Examinations Discovered The Earth Bound Nature Of The Skeleton

Once word spread that an abnormal skeleton possibly belonging to a creature from another planet was discovered in Chile, researchers from across the world sought out the bones to find out where it really came from. After a series of tests, scientists came to a variety of conclusions - none of them suggesting that the skeleton was that of a little green man.

One researcher believes that the skeleton was that of an eight-year-old, although Ralph Lachman, co-director of the International Skeletal Dysplasia Registry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, found that Ata was a skeleton of a pre-term birth with a severe form of skeletal dysplasia. The skeleton's dense growth plates do look to be those of a pre-teen, but this was likely caused by progeria, a rapid aging disease.
