It's said when a trans person begins living as their authentic self, their entire family transitions along with them. Some families make that shift, but others don't; by and large, Caitlyn Jenner's relationship with her family proves the latter occurred for the Kardashians.
The situation is a complex one, though, full of strong emotions and deeply personal matters of identity, belonging, and family. And when you're dealing with the Kardashians and Jenners, the whole thing turns an intensely private experience into entertainment for the masses.
Further complicating an already fraught situation: Jenner hasn't always handled her journey with the greatest skill or compassion. Both sides share blame for the Kardashian-Jenner divide, and show us family can sometimes be a messy and painful business - even when you possess money and fame.
Kylie Jenner Is Still In Contact
Jenner and her youngest daughter, Kylie, remain in regular contact with one another. Theirs seems the strongest bond in the family. When Kylie gave birth in early 2018, Jenner shared her grandmotherly pride on Instagram, and Kylie responded with "Love you."
For Father's Day 2018, Kylie posted an Instagram story with some throwback photos and the caption, "So lucky to call you my dad."
Kim Kardashian Has Distanced Herself
Kim Kardashian is not in contact with Jenner. In fact, Kardashian seems pretty angry. The two reportedly haven't spoken since 2017, with Kardashian admitting she lost respect for her former stepparent.
"I have always had Caitlyn's back," she said. "She is a liar. She is not a good person." The betrayal Kardashian feels seems to mainly stem from Jenner's tell-all memoir, in which she rakes the Kardashians over the coals more than once.
Still, Jenner insists she loves the family. "I love Kim so much... it's such a huge loss in my life not having her there anymore," Jenner told Piers Morgan.
Kris Jenner Is Livid
Kris Jenner might be the Kardashian-Jenner family member who feels most burned by Jenner, and she has her reasons. Kris claims she didn't know Jenner was trans while they were married, an assertion their daughter Kendall challenged.
Like the rest of the family, though, much of Kris's ire stems from Jenner's memoir, The Secrets of My Life. The book brings up numerous points of contention between the two, including Jenner's not-insignificant claim it was she, not Kris, who came up with the idea for Keeping Up with the Kardashians. As Kris told The Hollywood Reporter:
"It's so absurd. I'm not sure what the motivation was for her to say something like that. Maybe somebody should remind her it's called Keeping up with the Kardashians."
Kendall Jenner Still Sees Her
Jenner and daughter Kendall seem to maintain a relationship. In November 2017, the two were spotted dining together. In January 2018, Jenner posted an Instagram photo of her and Kendall having fun at a horse ranch. Kendall remains candid about her struggle coming to terms with her parent's transition, but she appears to handle things well overall. Kendall told Vogue in 2016:
"Sometimes I look at a picture of my dad when she was a guy, and it makes me a little sad – I get emotional. You have to get past it – you've got a new person to love. It's kind of a blessing in disguise – if that's not the wrong way to say it."
