The life of a child actor isn't easy. Even if they achieve fame as a kid, they often struggle to transition to more mature roles once they hit puberty. That seems to be true of the careers of the kids from The Sandlot; many of them more or less faded from the spotlight after the movie. Still, a couple of former Sandlot actors made it through their rough patches and are still working in the industry today.

Where are the kids from The Sandlot now? You've likely seen some of them on your screen. Tom Guiry (Scotty Smalls) gets regular work, and Chauncey Leopardi (Squints) had a recurring role on Gilmore Girls. But others were out of the biz by the turn of the century, and it seems some adjusted better to that reality than others. You may be surprised how many of them have had charges brought against them for violent crimes – or maybe you won't be.

Chances are, you'll be a little depressed after finding out what happened to the kids from The Sandlot. Hopefully their stories won't tarnish your youthful memories of the movie that made them famous.

When Scotty Smalls moves to the neighborhood, he desperately wants to fit in with his baseball-loving peers, despite his limited knowledge of the game. When the sandlot crew loses their last ball to Benny the Jet's mad skills, Smalls borrows a ball from his dad's office signed by someone he identifies as "Baby Ruth." Sure enough, the kids lose the ball over the fence into Mr. Mertle's backyard, but more significantly, the territory of "the Beast." When the rest of the team learns that the ball is autographed by Babe Ruth, they resolve to retrieve it from the Beast's lair at any cost.

Tom Guiry, who played Smalls, had a fairly active career as a child. Most notably, he played Matthew Turner in Lassie in 1994, the year after The Sandlot came out.

Tom Guiry has had steady work since his 1993 role in The Sandlot. He's been in such big name productions as U-571, Blackhawk Down, Mystic River, and The Revenant. While none of these were starring roles, to have steady work for over 20 years is as good as any actor can hope for.

In 2013, Guiry spoke with the Huffington Post about The Sandlot on its 20th anniversary. But it's not all roses; later that year, he was arrested for headbutting a cop.

Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez

Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez, better known as Benny the Jet, was the unequivocal leader of the sandlot crew. He was the best athlete, but also the most welcoming member, ingratiating Smalls to the team despite his less notable skill. Benny was the hero of the film and became a professional baseball player as an adult.

Actor Mike Vitar, who played the Jet, had some more '90s sports film success, appearing in both Mighty Ducks sequels. But that's kind of where it ended.

Mike Vitar's adult acting career is essentially non-existent. His last credit came in 1997, on an episode of Chicago Hope. But The Sandlot, D2: The Mighty Ducks, and D3: The Mighty Ducks is a pretty good resume for a kid.

Vitar is currently a Los Angeles firefighter. He was placed on suspension in early 2017, after facing felony assault charges for his involvement in the beating of a grad student.
