Who should host Jeopardy! next?
For decades, the mere idea of anyone but Alex Trebek presiding over America's favorite trivia gauntlet was almost too grisly to entertain. After Trebek passed at the age of 80, a lengthy search for his replacement ended right where it started: with Mike Richards, a Jeopardy! executive producer. His reign was short lived. Just over a week after he was announced as Trebek's replacement, Richards stepped down over controversial comments made on a podcast more than five years prior.
“It pains me that these past incidents and comments have cast such a shadow on Jeopardy! as we look to start a new chapter,” Richards explained in a memo to the show's staff.
So who can start that new chapter as both the Richards debacle and Trebek's legacy cast long shadows? As host, the endlessly charismatic and formerly mustachioed Trebek offered contestants encouragement and signature sassy moments for over 35 years. Before his death, Trebek himself suggested Laura Coates or Alex Faust to step behind the podium. Mayim Bialik will remain as host of the primetime specials, but the search for a full-time trivia master is on again.
Who could possibly wrangle the three-ring circus of arcane knowledge, lightning-fast responses, and even clever answers? No need to answer in the form of a question; vote up the public figures you'd like to see host and vote down the people you'd rather not see hosting Jeopardy!.
