UPDATE: Kawhi Leonard was named Finals MVP for the second time in his career after leading the Toronto Raptors to a 4-2 series win over the Golden State Warriors.

Every contender for 2019 NBA Finals MVP has already made it part of the way in the journey. They are all in the playoffs. Now, the trick is to get to the NBA Finals. LeBron James, probably the best basketball player in the world right now, has won the Finals MVP trophy three times in the past seven years, but for the first time since the 2004-05 season, King James is not in the playoffs.

Kevin Durant has won finals MVP the past two years for the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors and can join Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal as the only players to win the award three times in a row.

But first, the Warriors have to get to the 2019 NBA Finals, which won't be an easy task. The Houston Rockets are led by James Harden and Chris Paul, either of whom could top a list of NBA Finals MVP contenders. Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and the Oklahoma City Thunder won't go quietly either.
