Mummies provide an endless source of fascination for the living. The Victorians were even known for hosting mummy-unwrapping parties, so it's no wonder we still obsess over them today. The common conception of mummification involves a process where bodies are preserved to slow down decomposition: certain organs are removed (and often stored with the mummy); the body is wrapped in treated linen or bandages; and everything is placed in a sarcophagus. However, this isn't always the case.
Throughout 2021 we looked at pictures of mummies that differed from one another - some more traditional, and others not. The mummified remains of each person or animal tell a unique story about what events their life held - continuing on years later through photos.
