Over 1.3K Ranker voters have come together to rank this list of 14 Bizarre Anime Ships You Probably Didn't Know Were A Thing
The world of shipping is a wild one. People love everything from the canon romances to pairings that are totally off the wall. Some weird anime ships are fun ones - it's hard not to laugh at the idea of Haruka Nanase from Free! being more interested in wooing water than any of his friends. But others easily qualify as the worst anime ships - believe it or not, there are people out there who ship Myne and Naofumi from Rising of the Shield Hero!
If you're a fan of one of these pairings, no personal offense is meant. Lots of awesome people like pairings that are weird or even awful, and everyone has a different take on what counts. That said, these pairings are definitely eyebrow-raising.
While we're not sure how serious anybody actually is about this one, some Pokemon fans want Ash to choose Pikachu in a totally different way than he does in the series. Interspecies stuff isn't always totally off-bounds in the world of anime...as long as the two species have the same level of sentience. Pokemon and humans don't have that - you can't tell when someone's consenting if all they can say is 'Pikachu!' Also, Ash is perpetually ten, so there's only so far you can go with shipping him with anybody before things get uncomfortable.
As most anime fans know, Edward and Alphonse Elric are brothers. They're quite close as far as brothers go - they're dedicated to helping one another achieve their mutual goals, and they'll do anything to protect each other from danger. Some fans think this heartwarming relationship should be incestuous. It's hard to imagine how that would even work physically given the fact that Alphonse spends most of his time bound to a suit of armor, but maybe it's best not to think too hard about it.
As the protagonist, Izuku Midoriya (Deku) ends up shipped with just about every conceivable character, from more standard issue couples like canon love interest Ochaco Uraraka and his rival Katsuki Bakugo, as well as some sketchier parings involving his teachers. But while All Might x Deku and Aizawa x Deku are fairly common, there are weirder Student/Teacher ships out there if you insist on going down that particular road.
Apparently, some people ship Present Mic & Deku. Most of the time, Aizawa's in on it too, which makes sense since Present Mic and Aizawa are basically married as far as the fandom is concerned. What doesn't make sense is why either of them would get into a relationship with their students when they're supposed to be heroic - or why Mic would go for Deku, a student he has almost no personal connection outside of work.
Pitou is a chimera ant who eliminated Kite and then turned his body into a grotesque battle puppet that was intended to be used against his allies. The only time that the two spend together is during the battle that spelled the end of Kite's life, unless you count his time as a brainless husk afterwards. Apparently, though, some people ship it. Most of the fanfiction surrounding it is either a purposeful attempt to delve into the darkest things possible, or an alternate universe (AU) where their circumstances are completely different.
This one's probably not super serious, but it has appeared in at least one video, so we know it's out there. For those who don't know, the Tessaiga is Inuyasha's sword. It's an extremely valuable sword - it's a heirloom from his father, and it can slay a hundred demons in a single shot, or even send them straight to Hell. Despite its value, it's hard to imagine that Inuyasha would rather lock lips with it instead of Kagome, Kikyo, or literally any other sentient being in the series.
The most popular Light Yagami ship has always been Light x L, but that doesn't mean it's the only one. Actually, some people would rather see Light get down and dirty with Ryuk, the Shinigami who gave him the Death Note. Ryuk might look like a demonic Boston terrier, but hey, he does know more about Light than anybody else does, so maybe it works?
There is the pesky little problem that Ryuk is planning to annihilate Light after watching him dance for his amusement, but in this series there aren't really a lot of shipping options that aren't like that.
