List Rules Vote up the characters who are fascinating enough to hold down a summer blockbuster.

X-Men characters have been starring in movies since long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but that's not the only reason why they've been noticeably absent from the MCU. For decades, all the X-Men characters fans love were all owned by Fox, whereas the rest of the MCU was controlled by Disney. That all changed in December 2017, when Fox sold a huge portion of their company to Disney.

This acquisition means that the team of mutant superheroes can finally join the ranks of the MCU, and there are more than a few X-Men characters who should be in movies. Alternatively, it might be even more exciting to see some of the best X-Men characters rebooted in their own, stand-alone films. There's no shortage of movie ideas for fan-favorite X-Men, so Disney would be foolish to not capitalize on all the brilliant possibilities.

Storm is listed (or ranked) 1 on the list X-Men Characters Who Should be Rebooted On The Silver Screen
Photo:  Storm: Make It Rain/Marvel

Storm is an African born mutant with the power to control the weather. She is one of the strongest mutants ever, and arguably the most powerful fighter in Xavier’s corner. But none of the X-Men films have ever done her justice.

Fans who grew up on the comics and the animated TV series came to the original live-action films expecting epic monologues coupled with hurricanes and lightning that strike fear into the hearts of evildoers. However, Halle Berry's depiction of Storm involved minimal spoken lines and lackluster powers.

Simply put, the character deserves more than she has been given by any of the past X-Men films. While it would be great to see Storm play a more central role in future ensemble films, a solo Storm origin story film is long overdue as well.

Appears In: X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, + more

Rogue is listed (or ranked) 2 on the list X-Men Characters Who Should be Rebooted On The Silver Screen
Photo:  Rogue: The Complete Collection/Marvel

Rogue is the southern, rough-and-tough mutant with the ability to take other mutants' powers. On top of that, any mutant who she sponges from loses their powers for a short period of time. After coming into contact with the villain Pandemic, Rogue's powers increase significantly (she can kill people by touching them), and the limits of her abilities feel ever-expanding.

Rogue is well known for feeling  conflicted about her powers, which leave her unable to touch others without hurting them. However, when she appeared on the silver screen (played by Anna Paquin), this didn't quite come across, and she was lacking the sassy, brave personality that made her such a standout hero in the comics. Her story is so psychological and bad*ss that and it totally deserves a retelling.

Appears In: X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Marvel Universe

Powers & Abilities: Flight, Martial arts, Healing factor, Superhuman speed, Hand-to-hand combat, + more

Gambit is listed (or ranked) 3 on the list X-Men Characters Who Should be Rebooted On The Silver Screen
Photo:  X-Men: Gambit/Marvel

Gambit is the Cajun southern charmer who can make anything he touches explode. Many know him for his card throwing and bo staff, both of which are charged with his kinetic energy power. He chooses these items because of his gambling background, which is checkered enough to easily fill out a trilogy of films.

It has been announced that a Gambit movie is slated for a 2019 release, starring the ever-charming Channing Tatum, though production has been halted for some time. Fans are hoping that the movie will do justice to the character's fantastical origin story that involves a thieves' guide, kidnapping, and exile.

Appears In: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Marvel Universe

Powers & Abilities: Empathy, Interkinetic Power, Bio-Kinetic energy

Magneto is listed (or ranked) 4 on the list X-Men Characters Who Should be Rebooted On The Silver Screen
Photo:  Magneto/Marvel

Magneto is the leader of the mutant movement that opposes Professor Xavier's, and has the power to control magnetic pulses. He manages to use this power in a variety of creative ways, and can even fly by harnessing the Earth's magnetic waves. While the actors that have played Magneto — Ian Mckellen and Michael Fassbender — are both super talented, the storylines that they starred in failed to depict Magneto’s true power, inner philosophy, and drive. Rather than focus on Magneto's evil uprising, it would be amazing to see a film that spent time unpacking the villain's feelings of victimization, and that painted him as an important (if ruthless) advocate for mutant rights.

Appears In: X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: First Class, Magneto, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2, + more
