She's One of the Most Powerful Mutants in the Marvel Universe

Jean has always been super powerful, but in the X-Men Forever series, it was revealed that Jean, along with a few other mutants, is an Omega Level mutant. This means that aside from wielding massive amounts of psionic energy, she may very well be immortal.

Her Powers Have Changed Over the Years

When Jean was first introduced in X-Men #1, she was simply telekinetic, but over the years she was revealed to have telepathy. In 2001, an issue of New X-Men revealed that she could absorb massive amounts of psionic energy from others and combine her telepathy and telekinesis. Most recently, she swapped powers with Psylocke and developed the ability to call upon "Phoenix Raptors," which are exactly what they sound like.

She and Death Are Close

After ascending to the White Hot Room, Jean bumped into a manifestation of death who was dressed as a construction worker and immediately put the mutant to work. Seriously, Death had Jean build physical towers that were meant house the five billion souls of Dark Phoenix's victims. Jean also relived the experience of the destruction of the D'Bari system from the point of view of the victims. Fun!

Jean's Powers Manifested When She Saw a Friend Get Hit By a Car

The Shi'ar Hate Jean Grey

After the Shi'ar (a planet of alien tough guys) saw Jean (as Dark Phoenix) go nuts and devour the five billion inhabitants of one of its planets, they pretty much declared all-out war on Jean. In the 2005 Phoenix: End Song series, a group of Shi'ar warriors attempt to destroy Phoenix, but in doing so, they accidentally bond Jean and the dark force once again.

Jean Was Dead for Six Years

Following the Dark Phoenix saga, which ended with Jean committing suicide on the moon, Marvel decided to do something interesting with the popular character. They left her for dead. Rather than bring her back a few issues later, Jean stayed dead until 1986, when her body was discovered at the bottom of Jamaica Bay in Fantastic Four #286.
