This gallery features photos of a young Dustin Hoffman. The pictures include a baby picture, some pictures from his high school years, as well as into his early 30’s when he first landed a major film role. Born on August 8, 1937 in Los Angeles, California, his father had a job with Columbia Pictures as a set designer and prop supervisor. He graduated in 1955 from Los Angeles High School before attending Santa Monica College, intending to study medicine. He dropped out after only a year to join the Pasadena Playhouse. He also studied acting in New York City at the Neighborhood Playhouse. Hoffman originally dreamed about becoming a classical pianist, but changed his mind when he discovered his true passion for acting, coupled with the fact that he “didn’t have a good ear for music.” He struggled for ten years trying to make a name for himself and sometimes he was unemployed. His first role was at the Pasadena Playhouse, alongside future famous actor Gene Hackman. Ironically, Hoffman, Hackman and Robert Duvall were roommates in the 1960s while each was looking for work as an actor. His breakthrough role was in the hugely successful film, The Graduate. He went on to star in many successful films, such as: Midnight Cowboy, Little Big Man, Straw Dogs, Papillion, Lenny, Marathon Man, All the President's Men, Kramer vs. Kramer, Tootsie, Rain Man, Hook, Wag the Dog, Finding Neverland, Kung Fu Panda, and Meet the Fockers. He is a life-long fan of Archie comics, and owns every issue ever printed. Enjoy these photos of Dustin Hoffman when he was young.
