This gallery features a sexy, young, Joaquin Phoenix, including photos from his earliest television and film roles in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Born on October 28, 1974 in Río Piedras, he is one of five siblings. His parents married in 1969 and shortly after joined a religious organization called Children of God, and travelled with the group throughout South America. After becoming disenchanted with the organization, they moved to California and changed their last name to “Phoenix” to symbolize a new beginning. Joaquin changed his first name to “Leaf” during that same time, and later changed it back when he was 15 years old. All of his siblings were also actors as well; they were discovered by a child talent agent who got them smaller roles on commercials and television show appearances. In 1993, Joaquin’s brother, River tragically died from a drug overdose. In order to maintain his privacy, Joaquin retreated from the public eye for a year. Phoenix has starred in many hit films, such as: Gladiator, Buffalo Soldier, The Village, Hotel Rwanda, Ladder 49, Walk the Line, The Master, Her, and Inherent Vice. His 2010 mockocumentary, I'm Still Here, followed his retirement from acting and the rise of his hip-hop career. The film raised many questions about his mental state, but he later revealed that his bizarre behavior was just a hoax. Enjoy these photos of young Joaquin Phoenix.
