Born June 1, 1937, Morgan Freeman began acting at a very young age, appearing in school plays and competing in several Mississippi drama competitions.
Freeman's big break came with his role on the soap opera Another World, as well as the PBS children's show, The Electric Company. In the mid-'80s, he landed the lead in Driving Miss Daisy. In 1994, he went on to star in The Shawshank Redemption. He was nominated for Best Leading Actor for both films at the Academy Awards, but ended up winning his first Oscar for his performance in Million Dollar Baby.
Morgan Freeman also starred as God in Bruce Almighty, and as Lucius Fox in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. He is also well known for his involvement in the Nelson Mandela bio-pic, Invictus, where Freeman starred as Mandela. His mesmerizing voice was used to narrate March of the Penguins and War of the Worlds in 2005.
