YouTubers Who Died Too Soon

YouTuber deaths can be surprising. Even if we subscribe to their channels and follow them on social media, it's common to think they are just taking a break until we hear news of their passing. Several famous YouTubers who have passed died young. Some suffered from cancer, while others passed as they filmed stunts. Quite a few YouTubers who died young took their own lives.

You might be surprised by who you'll find on this list of deceased YouTubers. Cristina Grimmie was a YouTube singing sensation who landed a spot on Season 6 of The Voice, finishing in third place. The 22-year-old singer was shot by Kevin James Loibl while signing autographs outside The Plaza Live theater in Florida on June 10, 2016. Another YouTuber, celebrity impressionist Stevie Ryan, took his own life by hanging in July 2017.

Talia Castellano launched her YouTube channel after being diagnosed with cancer in 2007. She passed away on July 16, 2013, at the age of 13. Other famous YouTubers who died too soon include Monty Oum, Jamey Rodemeyer, and Martyn Hett, a victim of the 2017 Manchester bombing.

    Steve Cash, known on the platform for his "Talking Kitty Cat" series of videos, died on April 16th at the age of 40 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His wife made a statement on Facebook after the event, writing "I just lost my best friend, my sidekick, my lover, my mentor, my absolute everything."

    Grant Thompson - known as the "King of Random" - passed away at age 38 on July 29, 2019. A missing persons report was filed after Thompson failed to return from a paragliding trip in Hurricane, UT. A GPS device Thompson had been wearing led police to the discovery of his body.

    YouTuber and TV presenter Emily Hartridge died at 35 years old on July 12, 2019 in London, England. She was riding an e-scooter and was involved in a fatal accident with a truck. She was pronounced dead on the scene, per a press release from the London Metropolitan Police. This was Britain's "first fatal collision involving an e-scooter."

    Desmond Amofah (Etika) was most known for his videos about video games, specifically Nintendo releases. He had worried followers earlier in 2019 after tweeting about suicide. He went missing on June 19, 2019 and was later found by police in a reported suicide by drowning.

    Austin Powers actor Verne Troyer had over 800,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel which he used to post videos about cooking and much more. He died as the result of alcohol abuse in April of 2018. Several months later his death was ruled a suicide. Troyer was 49 years old.

    XXXTentacion - born Jahseh Onfroy - generated millions of YouTube views with his captivating rap videos. He was shot and killed on June 18, 2018, in Deerfield Beach, Fl at the age of 20. It is believed he was shot during a robbery.

    Christina Grimmie was a YouTube singing sensation who landed a spot on season six of The Voice where she came in third place. The 22-year-old was shot and killed by Kevin James Loibl while signing autographs outside The Plaza Live theater in Florida on June 10, 2016.

    Grimmie's brother tackled Loibl at which point the gunman took his own life.

    Fitness celebrity Greg Plitt shared workout tips via his eponymous YouTube channel. He died after being struck by a train while filming a video in 2015. He was running on the tracks at the time of the accident. Plitt was 37 years old.

    Aziz Shavershian shared bodybuilding videos on YouTube and was known as Zyzz. He died after suffering a heart attack in a sauna in 2011. His family revealed that the 22-year-old suffered from an undiagnosed heart condition.

  • Monty Oum is listed (or ranked) 11 on the list YouTubers Who Died Too Soon

    Monty Oum worked for Rooster Teeth and was a creator, director, writer, animator and voice actor of RWBY. On January 22, 2015, Oum fell into a coma after suffering a severe allergic reaction. He passed away on February 1, 2015 at the age of 23.

    Talia Castellano launched her YouTube channel after being diagnosed with cancer in 2007. Her makeup and beauty tutorials were geared towards others also suffering from cancer and she was ultimately signed to a contract with Covergirl cosmetics. She passed away on July 16, 2013, at the age of 13.

  • Jamey Rodemeyer is listed (or ranked) 13 on the list YouTubers Who Died Too Soon

    A victim of bullying himself, Jamey Rodemeyer used YouTube to share motivational videos with others who were bullied. He took his own life on September 18, 2011. He was 14 years old.

    Rodemeyer's death raised awareness for the deadly effects of bullying after Lady Gaga dedicated a performance of one of her songs to his memory.

    Edd Gould gained YouTube fame from his Wayne's World parody Eddsworld. He first revealed that he had leukemia in 2006 and in 2011 he announced he had lymphoblastic leukemia in a video entitled "Edd vs Cancer." Gould passed away on March 25, 2012, at the age of 23.

    Amanda Todd shared her struggles with bullying in a candid YouTube video in 2012. The 15 year old died in an apparent suicide.

    Adventure-seeker Alexander Polli shared daredevil videos on YouTube. He died while trying to do a corkscrew maneuver while floating through the air wearing his wingsuit in the Couloir Ensa in 2016. He was 31 years old.
