Roronoa Zoro is one of the greatest swordsmen in the world of One Piece. However, being "one of the greatest" isn't enough for the former pirate hunter. Zoro has dedicated his life to becoming the number one best swordsman in the world, as a way of honoring his fallen childhood friend. But you don't become the best without taking a few scratches.
Just like his captain, Monkey D. Luffy, Zoro is willing to die for his dream. Zoro has challenged countless swordsmen of great power as a Straw Hat Pirate. Some battles ending in victory: others in bloody defeat. Here are the worst injuries Zoro has suffered in One Piece.
If there's one moment in One Piece that solidified the love and respect Roronoa Zoro has for Monkey D. Luffy, it would be the sacrifice he takes for his captain in the Thriller Bark arc. Unable to overcome the unbelievable strength of Bartholomew Kuma, Zoro offers himself up in exchange for Luffy's life. Impressed that Zoro would give up his dream to protect Luffy's, Kuma offers him a deal. Kuma will spare Luffy, but in exchange, Zoro must bear the pain Luffy has endured throughout the Thriller Bark arc. Zoro agrees, despite knowing Luffy is near the brink of death. Using his Paw-Paw Fruit powers, Kuma transferred Luffy's pain into Zoro. The experience nearly killed Zoro, but he was able to save his captain's life.Ouch?
The reason why Zoro became a pirate is so he could one day defeat Dracule Mihawk and claim the title of the greatest swordsman in the world. During the Don Kreig storyline, Zoro finally met the legendary swordsman and attempted to take him out. It went horribly, and Mihawk utterly humiliated Zoro. However, Mihawk was impressed with Zoro's honor and gave him an honorable (yet painful) defeat.Ouch?
Zoro's match with Mr. 1, also known as Daz Bones, isn't just another phenomenal fight in the Alabasta arc, it's an educational one for the swordsman. It's the fight where Zoro learns how to cut metal by piercing the steel body that Mr. 1 got from eating the Dice-Dice Fruit. Before that, Zoro takes a brutal beating from Mr. 1. The worst injury Zoro endured during the fight was having his stomach cut up by Mr. 1's arm-saws.Ouch?
Almost Cut His Legs Off Because Of Mr. 3
Zoro nearly chopped off his own legs during the Straw Hats' adventure in Little Garden. Mr. 3, also known as "Loan Shark" Galdino, used the powers of the Wax-Wax Fruit to slowly encase Zoro, Nami, and Vivi in wax. Luckily, Usopp and Luffy were able to free their friends before they were waxed to death. However, Zoro came dangerously close to cutting his own legs off with his sword, in a desperate move to free himself from Mr. 3's trap. Zoro still has stitches on his ankles.Ouch?
