Garry Templeton

Garry Lewis Templeton (born March 24, 1956), is an American former professional baseball player and minor league manager. He played as a shortstop in Major League Baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, and New York Mets from 1976 to 1991. Templeton had good batting numbers in an era when shortstops did not provide much offense.

That being said, a lot of great players have spent their best years in San Diego, despite their lack of winning history.

For 20 years, Tony Gwynn was one of the steadiest hitters in all of baseball, which cemented him as one of the greatest Padres ever. While he didn&#39;t swing the most powerful bat, Gwynn could be counted on to hit well over .300 for most of his career. He won eight NL batting titles in his career and had a chance to reach baseball immortality in 1994 when he was knocking on the door of hitting .400 before the player&#39;s strike ruined that. Gwynn was a 15-time All Star and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2007, receiving an eyeopening 97.6 percent of the vote, one of the highest in Hall of Fame history.
