Michael Joseph Piazza is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher, most notably for the New York Mets. He also played for the Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, and Los Angeles Dodgers, with whom he was named the National League Rookie of the Year . A 12-time All-Star, Piazza has been described as the best offensive catcher of all time, and holds the career record for home runs hit by a catcher, with a total of 427.
