It was an unprecedented action when the major theater chains decided to close their doors temporarily due to the coronavirus. As a result of this decision, there are a number of 2020 movies being released early on VOD and streaming services.&nbsp;

Most of these films were either in theaters or just about to debut in them at the time of closures. Advertising dollars had been spent. Some of the films&nbsp;had the unfortunate luck to open just a week or two before the theater shutdown. For that reason, it made sense for the studios to continue rolling with the promotional momentum and shift the releases over to streaming. Audiences stuck inside due to self-isolating or being quarantined will now be able to enjoy these early release movies from their own home, without violating &quot;social distancing.&quot;

In most cases, the&nbsp;films will be available on&nbsp;traditional VOD outlets, like&nbsp;Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu, and Google Play. A couple will be coming -- or are already on -- specific streaming services, like Netflix or Disney +. He got his mitts on a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsLeaks/comments/eoaxdn/robert_meyer_burnett_reviews_an_early_draft_of/" target="_blank">leaked&nbsp;script for Star Wars: Episode IX</a>, supposedly written by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. Trevorrow, as most will recall, was originally announced as the director of the third and final installment of the long-running franchise&#39;s sequel trilogy. But in September 2017, the director - already a lightning rod after&nbsp;Jurassic World&nbsp;and&nbsp;The Book of Henry&nbsp;-&nbsp;<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/comic-riffs/wp/2017/09/05/lucasfilm-ousts-its-latest-star-wars-director-colin-trevorrow-is-fired-from-episode-ix/" target="_blank">was abruptly removed</a> from the project. His take on the&nbsp;Star Wars&nbsp;universe - not unlike Phil Lord and Chris Miller&#39;s original interpretation of&nbsp;Solo&nbsp;-&nbsp;was doomed to remain&nbsp;purely hypothetical.

But with the leaking&nbsp;of at least one incarnation of Trevorrow&#39;s vision, that hypothetical came a little closer to being, if not a reality, at least a more tangible thing. Titled&nbsp;Star Wars: Duel of the Fates, the screenplay is allegedly a draft from December 2016, and&nbsp;presents a completely different wrap-up to&nbsp;Star Wars&nbsp;than what J.J. Abrams delivered with The Rise of Skywalker. After all, there have been thousands of comics, novels, short stories, and cartoons expanding the&nbsp;Star Wars&nbsp;universe, which left a lot to work with. Then, Disney changed nearly everything in the Expanded Universe to be &quot;Legends,&quot; which stripped it all from canon. However, the announcement of Episode VII brought back a little hope regarding one series of books from <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-dark-horse-comics/ranker-comics?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">Dark Horse Comics</a>.

Star Wars: Dark Empire&nbsp;was first published in 1991 as a six-issue miniseries, which was followed by two sequels,&nbsp;Dark Empire II&nbsp;(1994) and&nbsp;Empire&#39;s End (1995). The books told the story of what happened after&nbsp;Return of the Jedi, so it wasn&#39;t a stretch for most fans to assume the new trilogy of films would use them as a template. When&nbsp;The Force Awakens&nbsp;was released, those hopes were dashed, as the new film didn&#39;t mirror the events of the&nbsp;Dark Empire&nbsp;trilogy - but that changed with&nbsp;The Rise of Skywalker.
