Walter White

Walter Hartwell White is a fictional character. The main protagonist, and anti-hero, in the American television drama series Breaking Bad on AMC. He was created by series creator Vince Gilligan and is portrayed by Bryan Cranston. A graduate of the California Institute of Technology, Walt was once a promising chemist who was one of the founders of the multi-billion dollar company Gray Matter Technologies. He abruptly left the company, selling his shares for $5,000, and subsequently moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to become a high school chemistry teacher. After being diagnosed with Stage IIIA lung cancer, he resorts to manufacturing methamphetamine and drug dealing to ensure his family's financial security after his death. Walt's evolution from mild-mannered school teacher and family man to ruthless criminal mastermind and murderer is the show's central focus.
Although AMC officials hesitated to cast Cranston due to his previous comedic role on Malcolm in the Middle, Gilligan cast him based on the actor's past performance in the X-Files episode "Drive", which Gilligan wrote.

In most movies, teachers are a nameless bunch who often times lurk in the background and don&#39;t play much of a role in shaping the plot line. The fictional teachers on this list are different. They play prominent roles in the movies they are in and their teaching and mentoring of the characters is an integral part of the movie. Whenever Robin Williams is sporting a thick beard, he is playing a serious role. Breaking Bad, one of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/best-dramatic-tv-shows-of-2011">best shows currently on television</a>, is about to end. No more blue meth, no more Badger, no more wondering which girl Jessie will get hooked on drugs next; in just one more episode, the glorious run of Jesse and Mr. White will end. What does this mean for us viewers? A high death toll, I suspect. From the preview of the end we got at the beginning of the first half of the final season (Walt with a beard and a friggin’ arsenal in the trunk of a car), there can’t be a doubt in anybody’s mind that blood will be spilled by the time the series wraps. Pretty much the only recurring character who’s truly safe is Saul Goodman, who will be getting a spin-off chronicling the time before he came to be Heisenberg's go-to guy. Now, since it is a prequel to the Walter/Jessie days, there's a chance he could bite it, but I’d still say he’s got the best odds of making it out alive.As for the rest of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/full-cast-of-breaking-bad-cast-list-for-the-show-breaking-bad/reference">Breaking Bad cast</a>, only time will tell.
