The Shining miniseries aired on ABC in 1997 over the course of three nights. Why the need for the small screen adaptation? Stephen King repeatedly made his disappointment well-known regarding Stanley Kubrick&rsquo;s 1980 big screen version&nbsp;of the horror master&#39;s&nbsp;1977 best seller of the same name. The <a href="https://www.slashfilm.com/in-defense-of-the-much-maligned-the-shining-miniseries/" target="_blank">story goes</a> that King desired to make the miniseries because he wanted the opportunity to write and produce an adaptation that he felt was truer to his novel. Here&rsquo;s a look at&nbsp;The Shining TV series cast.

King had <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/2013/09/stephen-king-says-wendy-in-kubricks-the-shining-is-one-of-the-most-misogynistic-characters-ever-put-on-film-93450/" target="_blank">major issues</a> with Kubrick&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/the-best-characters-in-the-shining-movie/ranker-entertainment" target="_blank">casting of Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance</a> and Shelley Duvall as his wife Wendy.
